About me
First, hello! I love learning about and from literacy leaders~ librarians and paraprofessionals. YOU and your teaching team may be the only ones encouraging kids in their reading journey as not all kids have that at-home support. So, thank you! I was a Reading Language Arts teacher in a middle school within Region 10 for eight years before I stepped out of the classroom to do my writing & speaking business full time last year. My heart IS in our schools. Can't wait to connect with you. Please come to my 2:30 p.m. session for creative ways to connect local authors and illustrators with your students!
Meet Angela Henderson Smith—
I love writing children’s books because anything is possible. Ice cream can grow on trees. Tree houses can be saved by a team of friendly forest animals. Magical Maples can bloom rainbow leaves by planting & spreading seeds of friendship…If you imagine it, it can happen! Helping kids see the good in tough situations is one of my motivations for writing children’s books. My trio collection, Isaac’s Ice Cream Tree, Isaac & Izzy’s Tree House, & Isaac & Izzy’s Magical Maples, covers specific TEKS and carries a strong SEL (social emotional learning) element embedded in each magical story, helping kids see the good in themselves.
Connecting with librarians and paraprofessionals to inspire students through school visits is my passion. My added niche within my author visits is leading uniquely crafted writing workshops where kids create a story in our session together! My promise is to make an author visit simple for librarians and meaningful for students. I even write educational grants to help librarians within their school budget. Can't wait to share more with you, our literacy leaders!

2:30 p.m. Session: Librarians & Local Authors Collaborating to Make Rich Connections in Reading & Writing with Kids
Librarians and paraprofessionals offer enriching reading experiences for kids, and meeting the authors of books enhances this connection, showing children that they too can dream big, work hard, and achieve their goals. As a local children’s book author and former middle school ELA teacher in Region 10, I'm thrilled to share my experiences of how librarians, paraprofessionals, and local authors can collaborate to support and enhance existing programs, and make creative, impactful experiences with kids. Let’s explore the many creative possibilities including grant writing to fund these opportunities!
